I’ve seen both these images before (as have most people on tumblr), but the Cinema Snob does an amusing review on this movie. He remarks that the only reason this film is remembered is for its five minute child massacre at the end. I can see why, it’s really awesome. The movie is so dull that I didn’t even know that these images were from it until I saw the pitchfork go through the boy’s neck. Then I remembered why the title was so familiar to me.

This day in history:
Mussolini and his entourage (including mistress Clara Petacci) are shot and killed by a firing squad in Northern Italy after attempting to flee to neutral Swizterland.
The next day their bodies were transported to Milan and hung upside down at a gas station for public viewing. An angry mob of Italian citizens kicked and spit on the remains of the former dictator’s body.

I really like when highlighters are used in artwork.
The Goebbels family:
With the capture of Berlin nearly complete and the end of the Third Reich looming, rather than attempt an escape or surrender to Soviet troops, Joseph and Magda Goebbels decided that they would stay loyal to Hitler until the end and kill themselves . This decision would affect their six young children, aged 4 -12, as well.
As told by Rochus Misch, the last living survivor of the Führerbunker:
Straight after Hitler’s death, Mrs Goebbels came down to the bunker with her children. She started preparing to kill them…We all knew what was going to happen. It was clear. I saw Hitler’s doctor, Dr Stumpfegger give the children something to drink. Some kind of sugary drink. Then Stumpfegger went and helped to kill them. All of us knew what was going on. An hour or two later, Mrs Goebbels came out crying. She sat down at a table and began playing patience.
With the help of Ludwig Stumpfegger, Hitler’s personal physician, Magda Goebbels poisoned her six children.
Soon after she left the Führerbunker to go above ground with her husband, whereupon they both killed themselves.
